How is physiotherapy different from chiropractic, osteopathy, or sports massage therapy?
Physiotherapy focuses on evidence-based assessment, diagnosis, and rehabilitation of musculoskeletal and neurological conditions. We take a holistic and active approach to recovery through hands-on treatment, exercise prescription, education, and movement retraining. While chiropractors and osteopaths also use manual therapy, they often emphasise spinal manipulation. Sports massage therapists specialise in soft tissue techniques for recovery and maintenance but most do not provide diagnosis or structured rehab planning. Physiotherapists are HCPC-registered healthcare professionals trained to assess and manage a wide range of conditions safely and effectively.
What can I expect at my first appointment?
Your initial appointment includes a full assessment, discussion of your symptoms, and a treatment session. As needed, we’ll explore your movement, strength, and posture, and provide a clear explanation of our findings and plan. Treatment usually begins on day one. You’ll receive a digital initial assessment form to complete prior to your appointment; this helps us make the most of your time in the clinic.
How long does a session take?
- Initial appointments: Up to 45 minutes
- Follow-up appointments: 30 minutes
What are the fees?
- Initial appointment: £55
- Follow-up appointments: £55
We aim to keep pricing straightforward and transparent. Payment can be made by card, cash, or bank transfer at the end of your session.
What are your opening hours?
We are open on the following days:
- Tuesday: 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM
- Wednesday: 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM
- Thursday: 8:00 AM – 2:30 PM
How do I book an appointment?
Do you accept health insurance?
Yes. We are registered providers with the following insurers:
- AXA Health
- WPA
- Vitality Health
Please check with your provider to ensure your plan covers physiotherapy and whether a GP referral is required for reimbursement.
If you’re covered by a health insurance cash-back plan such as Simply Health, Westfield Health, or similar schemes, we’re happy to support your claim. While we don’t bill insurers directly, we’ll provide you with a detailed receipt after each session, which you can use to claim your cash-back. If you’re unsure whether your provider covers physiotherapy, we recommend checking directly with them before booking.
What is your cancellation policy?
We ask for at least 24 hours’ notice if you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment. There is currently no cancellation fee, but it’s important to let us know in good time so that we can offer the appointment to someone else.
What should I wear to my appointment?
Please wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing that allows us to assess and treat the affected area. For example, shorts for a knee issue or a vest top for shoulder or neck problems. We can provide towels or coverings as needed for comfort and privacy.
Where is the clinic and is there parking?
The clinic is located inside the Arc Leisure Centre, Matlock, Bakewell Road, DE4 3AZ.
Free parking is available on-site, with easy access to the clinic entrance. Reception is able to direct you to the clinic room, and there are chairs available outside the room if you arrive early or are waiting for someone.
How many sessions will I need?
This varies depending on your condition, goals, and how your body responds to treatment. On average, patients attend 4–6 sessions, but some may need fewer or more. We’ll review your progress regularly and tailor your plan accordingly. There’s no need to book a block of sessions in advance.
Do I need a GP referral before I can see a physiotherapist?
No. You can refer yourself directly. If you’re using private insurance, do check whether your insurer requires a GP referral for reimbursement.
I have more than one issue. Can both be assessed in the same session?
We’re happy to help with multiple concerns, but depending on complexity, a separate appointment may be needed to give each condition the attention it deserves. Please let us know in advance so we can advise appropriately.
